BATS brings art to students.
Art changes children's lives.
Welcome to the BATS program!
The world is more visual today than ever and students need to "read and write" visually to understand and to be understood. Art skills are essential for personal and future career success. The BATS organization accomplishes these goals with more than 100 volunteers who teach art to Kindergarten through fifth grades in South Lake Tahoe public schools.
The BATS commitment to students includes instruction in art history, producing hands-on art projects and field trips to art exhibits in galleries. The BATS program purchases art supplies and bus transportation to galleries for approximately 1,800 students each year.
Kids love and need art!
Join the BATS Program Today!
If you would like to participate as a volunteer art presenter in the BATS program, you will be joining a dedicated corps of approximately 100 volunteers. BATS provides training and mentoring for new volunteers.
We visit our classroom five times during the school year. Using a grade specific portfolio, we present five fine art prints based on a theme. Following a discussion of the prints, the volunteer leads the children in an art project related to the theme. The portfolios all contain examples of fun art projects that have been successfully completed in the past.
